The Secret World of Arrietty
Director: Hiromasa Yonebayashi
Year Released: 2010
Rating: 3.0
Charming Studio Ghibli picture - scripted by Hayao Miyazaki (based on the Mary Norton novel) - about a group of 'little people' (no bigger than ants) that live hidden in a house of humans and routinely "borrow" (ahem, steal) from their much larger counterparts for sustenance. Carries with it Miyazaki's personal obsession for strong female heroines - in this case, willful Arrietty befriends a human teen who may be 'normal-sized' but is also incredibly ill. The message is basic - show respect for all creatures, great or small - and definitely a positive movie for kids (not to mention acolytes of Miyazaki).
