John Waters: This Filthy World
Director: Jeff Garlin
Year Released: 2006
Rating: 3.0
Or, An Advertisement for Myself (Complete with Dirty Jokes and a Taste for the Outré). Waters, a filmmaker whose writings and interviews and reviews I cherish (but whose movies I generally don't care for), does his little stand-up routine, mixing in wonderfully distasteful commentary on his life and career. Endlessly charismatic and impossibly upbeat, it's tough to find much wrong with Waters' public speaking style and Garlin (understandably) keeps the camera trained on him. It's basically Waters advertising his movies, but if you really want more of the outlandish, reading Crackpot, Shock Value and Role Models would be wise.
