A woman (Sylvie Testud), after learning (via letter) that her lover, who is a soldier, is leaving her, poses as a man and teams up with a band of deserters to find him. Drama takes a distant second place to whimsy in this absurd, inert 'war movie' - the soldiers, every so often, break into song; there's plenty of subtext in there about gender roles if you like your movies to be almost exclusively about theory. Great for semioticians, ho-hum for the rest of the planet.
