Bad Teacher
Director: Jake Kasdan
Year Released: 2011
Rating: 1.5
A negligent grade school teacher (Cameron Diaz) is saving up for breast implants (and looking for a Sugar Daddy) and will do anything to get the cash, even resorting to unscrupulous tactics, much to the disgust of a busy-body Super Teacher (Lucy Punch, who steals the movie). I'll admit based on first hand experiences that I know teachers exactly like these (to a less extreme degree, of course) and Diaz is effectively indifferent and sporadically biting, but this movie is really patchy and sloppy, failing to tie up loose ends, stretching well beyond the bounds of reason and not being as extreme as it needed to be. Justin Timberlake, as a gawky sub with a fondness for dry humping, makes me cringe in this one following what I thought was a commanding side role in The Social Network. But that damn closing shot - of Diaz becoming a guidance counselor - is a great joke (but you might have to be a teacher to 'get' it).
