Bridesmaids

Director: Paul Feig
Year Released: 2011
Rating: 2.0

Puffy 'feminist' (cough cough) picture has terminal screw-up Kristen Wiig trying to plan her best friend's wedding even though she can't fix the (obvious) problems in her own life, which seem to stem from her (apparent) low self-esteem. It has its amusing moments (speaking as a male viewer), but this Hangover for Women is more often than not awkward and unfunny: there are a string of unbearably drawn-out set-pieces that could have used some judicious trimming: the singing at the engagement party scene, the diarrhea in the bridal shop scene and the freaking out on a plane scene. These take place relatively early in the movie, and what follows isn't much better: there's a potentially unfunny subplot involving the (relatively experienced) Wendi McLendon-Covey and the (inexperienced) Ellie Kemper that just dissolves (their kiss on the airplane had me roaring). Wiig, in my minority opinion, is better in smaller roles.
