Until the Light Takes Us (2008) review

Pitifully constructed 'documentary' (if you could even call it that) about the Norwegian black metal scene that came to be in the 80's and led to things like arson, murder, humorlessness, cannibalism and bad makeup. Being a bit of a metal-head from back in the day (yes, I was the one listening to Cannibal Corpse in 6th grade), I was already aware of some of the particulars - the lunacy of the band Mayhem, the imprisonment of smooth-talking sociopath Varg of Burzum -but this picture is inept: it takes a special kind of talentlessness to drain the sensationalism out of eating a dead band member's brain. "Let's follow this dude in leather to the grocery store" is not good filmmaking.
