Survival of the Dead
Director: George A. Romero
Year Released: 2009
Rating: 1.0
Romero (wisely) avoids the first-person perspective of the awful Diary of the Dead with this one, but still comes up incredibly short. A group of soldiers (plus one hipster) find themselves on an island with two warring groups of humans: one who want to destroy the zombies no questions asked and the other who want to 'train' them to eat animals. Romero did the same basic concept, but much better, in Day of the Dead, and this one plays like almost like a Western at points, with zombies being a relative non-issue (and not exactly terrifying). Knowing Romero, there's some political point peaking its head in there, but it's not even close to being explicitly defined.
