Polytechnique

Just what we needed: another Elephant. Villeneuve recreates the 1989 Montreal Massacre where an anti-feminist/misogynist shot and killed several female engineering students at the École Polytechnique, but like Gus Van Sant's picture, doesn't feel it's necessary to give background information, delve into the psychology of the killer or even provide the name of the killer (it was Marc Lépine). This absence of details, combined with the black and white photography, droning soundtrack and fancy camera angles is supposed to make the events more 'haunting' and 'thought provoking,' yet remains - crudely and ironically - thoughtless and pointless.
