Hideously filmed - and pointless - Gainsbarre vehicle has at least one thing going for it: the making of it led to the creation of Charlotte. TV producer Serge Gainsbourg seduces much younger Jane Birkin, but he's married and is hesitant to divorce his wife, causing a tiff with Birkin; he then tosses her to a hotshot Italian boat captain (and appears shocked when she falls for the other man). The camera zooms and cuts at random spots and spins in circles and the script was probably scrawled on a pack of matches, but Serge's boozy/woozy lothario exemplifies the term "elegantly wasted."
