It Might Get Loud

Director: Davis Guggenheim
Year Released: 2008
Rating: 3.0

Guggenheim drags together three generations of guitarists - Jack White, The Edge and Jimmy Page - and gets them to talk about the instruments they mastered, their experiences growing up and their love of music. It's nothing revolutionary as a documentary - no difficult questions are asked - but I like the free-form approach and, frankly, the subject matter: I've taken guitar lessons and dabbled, but the closest thing to music I can manage is getting my Fender Squire to rattle the windows and piss off the people I live with. All three lovable eccentrics detail part of their creative process; The Edge has a formidable setup of switches and pedals while Jack pays homage to Son House and tinkers with cheap, broken instruments. It's fluff, but fun.
