Seven Pounds

Heinous weepie has clinically depressed engineer Will Smith not seeking the psychiatric counseling he really needs and deciding, as a kind of Messiah, what pure-of-heart, poor-of-health individuals will receive his (relatively healthy) organs and personal belongings when he decides to commit suicide. If you go into this cold like I did it might take a little bit for the reality of the situation to sink in, as Muccino dices up the narrative and deals in vagueness for bit, but once it does come into focus its shamelessness becomes unbearable. Smith lets you never forget That He Is Acting, and his hangdog expressions are simply begging for an Oscar nod (which he thankfully never received). At least Arcand's Jesus of Montreal put a curious and ironic spin on the concept of self-sacrifice.
