Moon
Director: Duncan Jones
Year Released: 2009
Rating: 2.5
Derivative sci-fi picture plays like a combination of 2001, Solaris and Primer (with some Prestige thrown in there) as an astronaut (Sam Rockwell) appears to be stuck on the moon and eager to get home, but then he gets into an accident, and when he wakes up there's another version of wandering around. Though a little flat - there's only so much you can do with Rockwell arguing with himself - it is a strange, understated mood piece: it touches briefly on the notions of identity, cloning and corporate ethics without being a soapbox piece. Does quite a lot with a (relatively) minuscule budget and Kevin Spacey (as dodgy robot GERTY) gets a chance to meld his work as voice-over man for Honda with his impression of HAL.
