Ponderous, unsatisfying examination by Garrel of his tumultuous relationship with the late German singer Nico, who died in 1988 of a heart attack (she was a known heroin user). Garrel isn't afraid to show himself as being cruel and it's basically a picture about memory and regret, though it simply cannot compare to Garrel's far superior The Inner Scar, a difficult but rewarding picture he made with her that symbolically probes their relationship (her neediness, his coldness). Little of this is quite as jarring as the first ten minutes of that movie, wherein the lovers fight with each other on screen and/or Garrel just ignores Nico's woes.
