The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Director: Norman Z. McLeod
Year Released: 1947
Rating: 1.0
Pathetic, silly, overwrought film, based real loosely on the Thurber short about homebody Walter Mitty, who gets lost in his daydreams of grandeur (today he'd be put on Dexedrine and there would be no more story). It's a show-off role for Danny Kaye, who plays Mitty, and gets to gawk at the camera and make a ton of stupid noises, trip over water bottles, fall into people and basically act retarded. Should Jerry Lewis appeal to you, dive in - I, however, will steer clear of such dated humor and keep with the original story, which was fine until Samuel Goldwyn got his hands on it. Whatever 'secret life' Danny Kaye had - undoubtedly more intriguing than this - was on E! Television not long ago.
