Halloween

Director: Rob Zombie
Year Released: 2007
Rating: 1.0

Here's another completely unnecessary remake ... and I have a few qualms with the original 1978 film (heresy, I know).  Zombie does a bit more than Carpenter in 'examining' the warped childhood of the Michael Myers murderer - abusive male figure (William Forsythe), promiscuous sister, nasty classmates, a penchant for mask-making - though it doesn't make the movie a more 'profound' examination of the psyche of a lunatic.  It isn't 'scary' as much as it's crass (cursing in close-up); Myers takes delight in killing the sexually active, which is why boyfriend-less Laurie (Scout Taylor-Compton) is able to get away to live and breathe another day.  Oh, horror movie logic!
