The Brothers Bloom
Director: Rian Johnson
Year Released: 2008
Rating: 1.0
It just tries too hard. Two eccentric con men (Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody) team up with an eccentric heiress (Rachel Weisz) and an eccentric explosives expert (Rinko Kikuchi) in an eccentric scheme to steal a rare book from Prague and sell it to some eccentric Russians. It's artificial, derivative and plays free and loose with the plot - it certainly doesn't reinvent the con movie, although it has full knowledge of all con movies that have come before it. Johnson - who possesses formidable technical prowess - knows more about movies than human behavior.
