An ill-equipped scientist (Charles Martin Smith) is sent out into the wild to do research on whether or not the wolves are killing the caribou by examining wolf scat and living in a tent near them. It's a gorgeous movie, full of amazing images of the beautifully snowy and dangerous Yukon and Alaska areas, but it's also almost entirely scenic instead of dramatic, like a National Geographic expedition with a pro-nature bent (big surprise: man is to blame). Smith's conversion from 'awkward city guy' to 'seasoned conservationist and outdoor expert' is expected, though the conclusion fails to explore the eyebrow-raising conclusion that living outside of civilization with animals and surviving on boiled mice is the essence of 'pure living.'
