Female Trouble
Director: John Waters
Year Released: 1974
Rating: 0.0
Another wacky, tacky Waters outing, this time celebrating the Mansons (it's dedicated to Tex Watson), drug abuse, rape, capital punishment and various tasteless elements of humanity. It's too easy and inviting to condemn the man's cinematic output, but he's so charming and eloquent that these jokes on the audience have a cute, harmless side - you either can go along with Divine's hideous overacting and the entire cast shouting at each other or you can't. Part of me wants to celebrate it while the other finds Waters' tongue-in-cheek approach to be a bit too coy - these pictures are all clearly the work of a man who knows what's good but chooses to enjoy what's bad (and is daring you to be offended).
