Save the Green Planet!
Director: Jang Joon-Hwan
Year Released: 2003
Rating: 1.0
Twitchy madman Lee Byeong-gu (played by Shin Ha-kyun, who was good in Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance) kidnaps businessmen that he's convinced are aliens from another planet - the film plays along until the very end, where (big surprise) it turns out he's actually right. The environmental issues I figured this was targeting are quickly brushed aside by scenes of graphic torture and bloodletting (like Park Chan-wook's pictures) which also compromise any potential humor it was going for (unless, of course, South Korea has a darker sense of humor than we do). The conclusion is also a major letdown: it's a lame gag that Takashi Miike managed to make work in the first Dead or Alive but only seems like a cop-out here.
