Meet the Robinsons
Director: Stephen J. Anderson
Year Released: 2007
Rating: 1.5
Orphaned boy genius with a need to belong gets whisked off to the future by a time-traveling teen and encounters a family of eccentrics - being a Disney movie, this is about Family Values (!) and being a kids movie, that point gets slammed home to hell and back. Particulars are lifted wholesale from so many other movies and Disney products it's hard to keep track of what, exactly, is 'new' - I count The Incredibles, 12 Monkeys, The Matrix, the TV shows The Oblongs and Jimmy Neutron and Toy Story as but a few of the place a lot of this originated. The killer bowler hat itself (named "DOR-15," or Doris) is a neat villain (I'll ignore the 2001: A Space Odyssey reference in this case), but her cohort looks like a cross between Boris Badenov and Jack Skellington. I'm still trying to get over the fact that it took nine people to write this and there's all this hubbub about "screenwriters" demanding raises. For what, people?
