Hostel: Part II
Director: Eli Roth
Year Released: 2007
Rating: 2.0
Instead of pussy-hungry frat types in Slovakia getting gutted by thrill seekers, part two has globe-trotting college girls on Mommy and Daddy's dime being hunted down. Like the first film, this is still plagued by xenophobia ("shifty" Europeans and their damned anti-Americanism!) and a preference for the easy shock moment instead of the truly subversive - Roth's still a long way from Romero's best work, and like a lot of cheese peddlers, needs to start serving some good wine to help wash it down. After a somewhat labored beginning, he pulls out a half-decent ending that's both grizzly and comical. Citing Ruggero Deodato and Lucio Fulci for inspiration is only fair; putting a price tag on the deliciously pale Lauren German is simply wrong.
