Mr. Vampire

Director: Ricky Lau
Year Released: 1985
Rating: 3.0

Three daffy ghost tamers - if I may call them that - have to do battle with the undead in this pleasant comedy/horror offering. I've often complained that combining comedy and horror isn't always wise, but there have been enough success stories to prove me wrong (Dead/Alive, Bad Taste, Cemetery Man) and this is a nice addition to this list, even though it's decidedly more comedy than horror. The interaction between the principle characters is often hilarious and their timing is impeccable - add to that the kung fu (plus wires!), slapstick and supernatural elements, and you've got yourself a quality cult picture.
