The Host

Director: Bong Joon-Ho
Year Released: 2006
Rating: 1.5

A repulsive American doctor (one of many!) poisons the Han River in South Korea, creating a giant lizard that eats poor, non-polluting Koreans; other reprehensible Americans are given the task of (a.) giving poor, defenseless South Koreans unnecessary brain surgery and (b.) not properly dealing with the giant lizard our disgusting American hands created and (c.) lying to the poor, naive South Korean people. If you've ever seen any other monster movie none of this should come as much of a surprise, since it follows the formula well and gives up on trying to patch the logical loopholes (plus, they're awfully slow in trying to kill the creature): it's a sleeker, more claustrophobic Godzilla (Bong has most likely seen The Relic and Alien 3). Bonus points are awarded for actually having the moxie to kill the little girl not once, but twice.
