Oh! What a Lovely War
Director: Richard Attenborough
Year Released: 1969
Rating: 1.0
The grim and brutal first World War gets its ass handed to it by great actor and mediocre filmmaker Attenborough via ... song and dance. Granted, it isn't exactly the 'same old' anti-war message of displaying gore piled on top of gore to sicken and dishearten you, but telling the tale through symbolic fragments with an abundance of sarcasm/dry wit isn't a good recourse either. More often than not it becomes a game of spotting the celebrities or wondering what droll ballad is going to be sung next. More Marx Bros.-type lunacy would have been welcomed.
