A painter wanders out into the wilderness to commit suicide (or find redemption) and meets with an old woman who offers shelter and food. Plot and character development, however, are ultimately besides the point in what can almost be described as a visual poem - the question remains, however, whether the pieces of what Reygadas left in the picture amount to all that much for the viewer, or if the movie amounts to a collection of unique 'images'. I personally didn't take much away from this aside from some scenery and a few perplexing moments (the parallel between the fornicating horses and humans is peculiar), but that isn't to say there aren't traces of genuine talent in it.
