The Puffy Chair
Director: Jay Duplass
Year Released: 2005
Rating: 0.0
Superficial, cripplingly unfunny pseudo-documentary about two brothers (plus the one brother's irritating girlfriend) and their oh-so-precious road trip (they're the rage!) from NYC to Atlanta to deliver the title chair (bought on eBay) to their parents. The shaky, constantly re-focusing camera is one early tip-off there's something wrong with this - the ridiculous impromptu wedding, the horrible, affected 'acting' and the endless contrivances surrounding the chair itself confirm it. A sizeable number of American "indie" films, of late, have been awful enough to trigger conniptions; if I actually had to go to Sundance, the combination of hipster trust-fund funk and mountain air would give me a coronary.
