Jet Li's Fearless
Director: Ronny Yu
Year Released: 2006
Rating: 1.5
Commie propaganda tucked inside the dumpling of a historically inaccurate biopic: during the early 1900's, every non-Chinese person (the Japanese and British especially) is there to destroy Chinese culture and true happiness is shown to be blind girl working in a field. Ugly subtext aside, this is really just another example of Kung Fu Porn (like Tony Jaa's recent pictures): you wade through the familiar plot points (heavy drinking and pride leads to murder which leads to guilt which leads to exile which leads to rehabilitation which leads to resurgence, etc.) for the cool battle sequences (Yuen Woo-ping, I presume?) and camera tricks. It's been billed as Jet Li's last martial arts movie, but he's young and people like these things ... don't they?
