Superman Returns

Director: Bryan Singer
Year Released: 2006
Rating: 1.0

Lackluster return for the Man of Steel (newcomer Brandon Routh, asked to play a cipher), who still has to fight against Lex Luther (Kevin Spacey, the sole redeeming factor) and still tries to win the heart of Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth). The emotion is lacking on all fronts - the non-stop CGI only makes it that much more of a glorified video game - and the sociological undertone (relating to 9/11 and the need for a Messiah) strikes me as being a smite unhealthy ... though of course, I saw this after a long, tiring week and could just be reading too much into it. Spacey and Parker Posey make one of the best screen couples of the year, though they seem to be the only ones having a good time.
