Capricorn One
Director: Peter Hyams
Year Released: 1978
Rating: 2.5
Half-decent popcorn movie about an (improbable) attempt by NASA to fake a space mission to Mars that gets sniffed out by journalist Elliot Gould; it ends with James Brolin (improbably) dangling from the wing of a crop-duster flown by Telly Savalas. Pure tomfoolery if you think about it - and thinking about the particulars will only drive you mad - though the dialogue is quite crisp at times (Savalas, Gould, Gould's boss and Karen Black all get some choice lines) and the acting is sufficient. The visceral impact of the plane versus helicopter final chase is no doubt lost on the small screen.
