Sins of the Fleshapoids
Director: Mike Kuchar
Year Released: 1965
Rating: 3.0
No-budget 'classic' - centered around 'robots' who fight back against their human masters - that looks like it was shot in the corner of a living room, in someone's bathroom and an apartment stairway. I'd be hard-pressed to call it "good," but I would use the word "curious" in an Alice in Wonderland sense: there's something pleasing to know that someone could make a film like this with no money (the 'space pod' some of the characters live in is a drawing done with crayons; the film is silent except for dialogue 'drawn' onto the frames), a lot of love for moviemaking and without an ounce of pretentiousness. The ending, in its own oddball way, is utterly brilliant.
