The Brothers Grimm

Director: Terry Gilliam
Year Released: 2005
Rating: 0.5

Two storytellers/frauds (Heath Ledger and Matt Damon) get sent to take out the Queen Mirror (Monica Bellucci) and battle through magical werewolves and moving trees and things of that nature. My least favorite Gilliam films happen to be Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen which I feel are his most pop-cheery and self-indulgent works (Brazil, at the very least, is pessimistic), and you can very well add this to that pile. I'm not saying the attention to detail and sets aren't wonderful - they are - but it's all eye candy and sprinkles and stupid plot devices, and I need a little more to hang onto. One of Gilliam's major flaws is that he doesn't know when to stop, which is why Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - to my mind his most underrated movie - turned out so well: Hunter S. Thompson's excess met with Gilliam's excess.
