Saw
Director: James Wan
Year Released: 2004
Rating: 1.0
Pitifully stupid horror movie told in flashback - two people find themselves chained up in a room with a dead body and have to figure out why they got there. Except for the introductory set-up and the clever ending, everything else is a cliché, from the dialogue to the red herrings to the slow-but-steady plot exposition (revealing things at opportune times), and the acting is an abomination (Cary Elwes should have had a Razzie nomination for this). The model is Andrew Kevin Walker and David Fincher's Se7en, but mostly in terms of the violent content and certainly not the intelligence.
