Supposedly classic W.C. Fields movie is a forgettable romp - "The Great Man" (Fields, playing himself) proposes script idea to movie producer (we get to see dramatized product), it gets rejected and eventually there's a ridiculous car chase (that reminds one of The Bank Dick, a better Fields film). None of the pieces come together - the movie is a mish-mash of failed ideas and pretentious self-commentary - and I didn't laugh, chuckle or smile at any of it. There are also far too many singing interludes that, like everything else, mean little. A completely disastrous mess - give me any other Fields film instead.
