The Scent of Green Papaya
Director: Trần Anh Hùng
Year Released: 1993
Rating: 2.0
A young girl who becomes a servant to a wealthy family (or wealthy until the husband skips town) examines life around her: the ants covered in goo, the leaves, the food sizzling in the wok, the little boy who acts as minimal comic relief by peeing and farting. The attention to detail is astounding, but it's all little details until the very end, where the girl finally finds her Prince Charming. For the most part, I felt like I was watching a nature program or something along the lines of 1996's MicroCosmos - it's hard to get worked up about a film so loaded up with Adderall.
