Models

Director: Ulrich Seidl
Year Released: 1999
Rating: 1.0

Since it's obvious that Seidl isn't exactly a 'documentary' filmmaker in any actual sense, what is the point of this movie, about three models trying to become famous? Seidl doesn't even pretend like he's going to stay out of the way - even getting right in the middle of a 'photo shoot' - so all that's left of this is voyeurism and his apparent misogyny in watching his subjects shave, do cocaine, purge, banter with each other, whine about their own flaws and have sex with strangers. I kept thinking that there has to be some subversive and deep purpose to it, but Seidl isn't a complex thinker - he views humanity with contempt, and picks easy targets (religious zealots, the elderly, the mentally retarded) to record with his camera.
