Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Director: Adam McKay
Year Released: 2004
Rating: 3.0
The machismo of an all-male news team from San Diego is challenged when a female anchor (Christina Applegate) tries to squeeze in - the one most affected is testosterone-gargling Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell). Actually a continuation of Old School's absurdist/infantile humor - this works better than that film because it hangs it all out there, from the "Sex Panther" scene to the cameo by Jack Black. Ferrell - who co-scripted with McKay - and his on-screen cohorts say pretty much anything that comes to mind and the ratio of gags to laughs is higher than most comedies. Of course, like Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, it's also achingly stupid and purposely disposable; unlike Dodgeball, it's consistently quotable.
