Shaun of the Dead

Director: Edgar Wright
Year Released: 2004
Rating: 2.0

Sometimes fun but minimal comedy/zombie movie that sticks most of the good gags in the first half hour - where the stoner protagonists are so lackadaisical they don't realize the town is being over-run by the undead - before reverting to action for the second and third and overwrought Tarantino homage for the finale (it's not surprising that Q.T. has praised the film to high heaven; it seems to follow a formula: reference his movies and he high-fives you in public). Without the socio-political bent of Romero or the visual wizardry of Boyle's 28 Days Later (like the film or not) or the go-for-broke insanity of Peter Jackson's Dead/Alive, it failed to astound me and live up to all the hype - though fans of comedy-horror appear to be in love.
