Cotton Comes to Harlem
Director: Ossie Davis
Year Released: 1970
Rating: 2.0
Somewhat lively but still corny comedy-drama about a preacher-hustler who offers the prospect of returning to Africa to the citizens of Harlem but actually scams them out of their money. Silly dialogue and so-so acting really mar the effectiveness of this; it's also quite self-conscious and tries entirely too hard to make rather obvious points about race relations (there are only a handful of white characters in this, and they're all prejudiced to a certain degree).
