Starsky & Hutch

Director: Todd Phillips
Year Released: 2004
Rating: 0.5

Almost completely humorless po-mo update of the shlocky American TV show - it tries too hard to stay relatively clean-cut for anything wild or surprising to happen. It is no surprise, too, that its sole redeeming factor is Will Ferrell, whose kooky criminal adds a much-needed transgressive jolt to the movie. I understand the teaming of Wilson and Stiller, but they're certainly not a pair for the ages (like Crosby and Hope); casting Snoop Dogg as Huggy Bear is inspired (and somehow so obvious - who else could do it? Chris Tucker?).
