Dracula: Pages From a Virgin's Diary

Maddin lends his idiosyncratic style to a very sexualized ballet based on Stoker's Dracula story, giving it a grim, musty and occasionally color-tinted look. I admit I don't know much about ballet, but this is a visual treat, and the wild editing - complete with flash cuts and an assortment of other tricks - keeps it all moving at a brisk pace. It has a sense of humor, too, and is not shy with all the innuendo (vaginal doors pried open, sultry dancing in the garden).
