Howards End
Director: James Ivory
Year Released: 1992
Rating: 2.0
Creaky soap opera in which three families collide: Anthony Hopkins and his family, who own lots of land and a nice house; Emma Thompson and her sister (Helena Bonham Carter) who don't always get along (and are both man-hungry) and a banker who dislikes his chubby wife. Thompson eventually weds Hopkins much to Carter's dismay, all the while the banker and his wife suffer financially. The cast is quite good in their roles (Thompson won an Oscar ... Hopkins and Carter were robbed), the costumes are outstanding and the cinematography is a joy to look at ... it's unfortunate the story doesn't go anywhere.
