Robin and Marian
Director: Richard Lester
Year Released: 1976
Rating: 2.0
Rethink of the Robin Hood fairy tale that takes fantasy and turns it into grim reality - King Richard (Richard Harris, who steals the beginning of the movie) gets impaled with an arrow, becomes ill and dies, people have knives and swords shoved in their flesh and the ending is less Disney and more Shakespearean tragedy. There doesn't appear to be much chemistry between long lost lovers Robin (Sean Connery) and Lady Marian (Audrey Hepburn) - at least, when compared to the relationship between Robin and Little John. Harris' feisty presence led me to believe this would be a witty spin-off of the original, but it turns out it basically is the original (battles in Sherwood Forest, sword fight with the Sheriff) with the only 'twist' being that the characters have aged considerably.
