Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars

Director: D.A. Pennebaker
Year Released: 1983
Rating: 2.0

The androgynous one performs the last show of his tour in his native country and documentary filmmaker Pennebaker is there to record it. Pennebaker's choosing to cover Bowie is a smart - he made some of the best rock albums of the 70's - but the execution is all wrong, and Pennebaker's camera(s) can't penetrate the thick darkness of the stage and bright orange lighting of Bowie himself; the only parts that are distinguishable are the precious few moments of backstage time. Bowie's stage shows are certainly well known, but you wouldn't know it by the rather subdued execution - it feels more like a fan bootleg than a professional production.
