A Story of Floating Weeds
Director: Yasujirō Ozu
Year Released: 1934
Rating: 3.0
An actor ashamed of his profession tries to keep his long-lost son away from him so that he'll become successful in this warmly understated Ozu drama. Like Tokyo Story and a lot of his best work, the film really works as a type of fable wherein someone learns something about one's self and a lesson: here, the actor has to come to terms with his son's decisions and support him on whatever path he chooses. It's a wise and benevolent film, just like the rest of Ozu's work.
