This work by Wise is reportedly one of Steven Spielberg's favorite movies (he produced the 1999 remake, directed by Jan De Bont). Other than the cinematographer's crafty camera tricks (it sits, it spins, it goes sideways ... it's a non-human circus act!) and interesting sound effects, I found it to be a chore. The lead actress' role is so pathetically written that I was tempted to turn the damn thing off several times ... but I kept on, to no reward.
