The Nightmare Before Christmas
Director: Henry Selick
Year Released: 1993
Rating: 3.5
Ingenious stop-motion animation from director Selick and Tim Burton about a stick-figure skeleton named Jack Skellington that is bored with the gloom of Halloween and wants to have a part in Christmas as well, going as far as kidnapping Santa and giving children severed heads as toys. A true cult classic, it's also unapologetically gruesome and savagely uncompromising - it's less for children and more for adults who used to be children (or adults who still feel like children) and in the process have developed a slightly jaded outlook on the Holidays.
