The third - and thankfully last - piece of Miike's Dead or Alive trilogy is a major slip in quality from the first film, which had a grinding guitar score and wicked sense of humor. A homosexual ruler tries to sterilize his society - out of his own inability to produce children? (groan if you must) - with medicine that some refuse to take and ends with a giant robot rising out of the earth (don't bother trying to make sense of all this - it's intentionally vague). It's not sure what it wants to be, and with Miike making six or more films a year he probably doesn't care that much.
