Road to Morocco
Director: David Butler
Year Released: 1942
Rating: 2.5
One of the Crosby-Hope-Lamour 'Road' pictures that features the usual assortment of songs, in-jokes and sight gags; its refusal to take itself seriously - and its upbeat tone - make for pleasant viewing. The quick-witted lines that get tossed off by the cast (Hope provides the majority of them) are the best part - the visual gags that involve Hope turning into a monkey or that include some poorly-animated camels offering commentary aren't so good. You get the feeling everyone had a blast making it, and in post-production the editors pieced it together in a single afternoon after several martinis. It's cute, quick and innocuous.
