Kung Pow: Enter the Fist
Director: Steve Oedekerk
Year Released: 2002
Rating: 2.5
You'd think that kung fu movies are funny in themselves - with the awful editing and silly taunting - but Oedekerk went on making this anyway, using computer technology to insert himself into a 1977 beat-'em-up ... and surprisingly, it's not half-bad. Woody Allen did something similar in What's Up, Tiger Lily? (he didn't have the tools to actually put himself in there) - and even at an hour and fifteen minutes it's a little long - but it has the same dry, off-the-wall humor the Monty Python films did (though not as brilliant, of course) and I probably laughed more at this than 75% of the comedies I've sat through ("gopher-chucks!"), which has to go for something. The consistently negative reviews this has received are worth reading too, as semi-literate people complain about "the pathetic English dubbing," "shoddy production values" and "poor CGI."
