Streets of Fire
Director: Walter Hill
Year Released: 1984
Rating: 1.0
Self-conscious camp rubbish about a female rock singer (Diane Lane) who gets kidnapped by a group of thugs (their leader is Willem Dafoe), and her agent/owner Rick Moranis pays lone wolf Michael Paré to rescue her and save the day. It's West Side Story without the bounce or charm - and I didn't even think West Side Story was that fantastic - although the sets are grim and steamy, and the police are, for once, shown as being the most level headed people in the movie. Dafoe does his familiar sneering-baddie bit, and Rick Moranis is once again required to play an awkward nerd (though a rich nerd - not sure if that's an improvement); Paré, who makes Sylvester Stallone look as talented as Fredric March, is for some reason mistaken as being leading-man material.
